Wugang Steel Group Co.,Ltd. is the first production and scientific research base of wide and heavy steel plate in China. Founded in the year of 1970, Wugang was a military project for national Defense to produce extra heavy alloy steel plate urgently needed by national Defense military industry as a major business, of which the decision was made by the State Council. In September of 1978, China first 4200mm wide and heavy plate mill was started up in Wugang, ending the history that China was incapable of producing extra wide and heavy steel plate. Through 40 year unremitting and aggressive effort, Wugang has now become the principal base of wide / heavy steel plate localization and import substitution in China. It possesses two wide and heavy steel plate production lines including one 4100mm line and one 4200mm line of high specialization, with international first class technological equipment and the comprehensive capacity of annually producing over 5 million tons of molten steel and 3 million tons of steel plate. The total assets are 13.2 billion yuan. The number of employees amounts to more than 10，000. The company covers an area of 7.35 m2. The total area of industrial building at plant site is 4.4 million m2. The steel plate heat treatment technology, extra heavy steel plate production technology and ESR steel production technology are all in the leading position of the same industry. Among the 12 product series, 300 and more steel grades, 400 and more thickness specifications wide and heavy steel plate products such as low alloy high strength steel plate and alloy structural steel plate etc. in Wugang, more than 180 steel grades have either been used to substitute import or produced with foreign standards, more than 30 steel grades have been exported many developed countries and regions in Europe, America and Asia, setting up mighty image of national brand. The products have been widely applied for a lot of national key construction projects, important equipment manufacture and national Defense military projects such as the Three Gorges Project, Beijing Olympic Games Project, Shanghai World Expo Project, National Large Plane Manufacture Project, National Manned Space Flight Project, which played important role.
